EXPOSURE+ PHOTO is back in 2023 !

21 September - 01 October

After successfully staging our inaugural event in February 2022 Exposure+ Photo will be back, following a similar multi-venue exhibition format in the city centre of Kuala Lumpur. Our mission will continue by expanding the depth and exposure of Malaysia-based photographers, along with bringing a varied and fresh international program of project-based photography to Malaysian audiences.

The Open Call 2023 for project submissions launches in January, with a new inspiring theme A Different Light.

Co-founded by photographers Steven Lee and Nadirah Zakariya - and supported by Munirah Rohaizan and Kelvin Mah our newest member, EXPOSURE+ PHOTO is an independent and grassroots initiative, operating on a non-profit basis and collaborates with sponsors, partners and supporters.

Steven Lee is the founder-director of Kuala Lumpur International Photoawards (KLPA). He is actively involved in international photography events as jury, portfolio reviewer, mentor and workshop leads. He acted as  nominator for the World Press Photo 6X6 Global Talent Program and Leica Oskar Barnack Award (LOBA).

Steven is also a photographer who began his career in fashion and portraiture, as well as travel documentary work in the early 2000s, and has self-published several books.

Born in 1984 and raised in Malaysia, Nadirah Zakariya draws inspiration for her work through her non-specific geographical upbringing. Currently based in Kuala Lumpur, Nadirah received her Bachelor in Fine Arts from the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC.
Nadirah is an internationally published photographer with works in numerous publications such as Bloomberg News, The New York Times Magazine, NYLON, VICE, Dazed and Confused, Refinery29 and Vogue Italia. She is currently featured in Flora Photographica, a book published by Thames & Hudson in 2022.

Nadirah’s works have been exhibited in cities including New York, London, Paris, Milan and Kuala Lumpur.

From Kuala Lumpur, Nurul Munirah Rohaizan is a self-taught photographer who discovered photography when she was a business student in Dublin, Ireland and is currently based in Kuala Lumpur as Project Manager for the Kuala Lumpur International Photoawards.

She is also part of the committee and contributor for and was the assistant curator to the MOCA Fest visual art team in conjunction with the World Islamic Economy Forum (WIEF) in 2015.

Kelvin Mah is an independent photographer and videographer. His street photography uses non-traditional composition to tell a visual story. He believes that stories can live anywhere. For Kelvin, creating images is not about documenting a particular time or place. It is about capturing what he can see and the way he feels about the moment itself.

In 2021, Kelvin published his first photo zine titled ‘Spectator”. It is a documentation of candid moments in the lives of people living and working in the city of Kuala Lumpur. He was also selected as one of the eleven Malaysia-based photographers to exhibit at the inaugural Exposure+ Photo 2022 festival.
